Snapchat allows users to display follower count
Snapchat is now allowing its users to display the number of followers they have added to their account. Earlier Snapchat did not allow its users to show the follower count publicly. Only users themselves had info about the number of followers they have. The update was discovered by a renowned social media researcher Mike Metzler before anyone else, and also shared a screenshot to his Twitter account.
There was a time when Snapchat was against the policy of showing the number of followers added to the account and now the company has completely a changed mind. A statement from a spokesperson of Snapchat can support the explanation, “We’ve listened to feedback from our creator community and many of them expressed interest in having the option to show that their community on Snapchat is growing. So, starting today, we are giving creators the option to make subscriber counts visible on their public profiles. We understand that not every creator wants to have public metrics visible to their fans. Therefore, creators can choose to toggle this metric on and off as needed in their settings.”
Why display Snapchat subscribers count publicly?
The people making most of this update are Snapchat influencers. A large and fast-growing audience can help you earn sponsorship and advertising opportunities. The size of the audience you are connected to will describe how beneficial those opportunities are. Follower or subscriber count will display the relevance of any business to follow. If people are allowed to see the follower count, they are more likely to follow it.
The opposite is also true which is if a business has less count of followers, it is more likely present that the account is not worth following. Subscriber count will remain disabled by default and if you want you can enable to display. Public profile options will be soon available to all users worldwide. In the public profile, a user can add several things like profile photo, bio, email address, location, and many more.
